The City Specialist Hospital has been developing steadily over the last ten years, since it started in 20215 as polyclinics, rendering specialist consulting services nationally in South Sudan with associated regional and international clinical referral services to East African, middle eastern (mainly Egypt and United Arab Emirates), India and the UK. At the time of the Corona pandemic, a significant shift to a specialist hospital and a standalone allied pharmaceutical Directorate registered as a private business under one big company, The City University Hospital Ltd.
This is 100-bed specialist hospital and an allied Pharmaceutical Directorate were established by national private business efforts to curb the challenging healthcare demands in South Sudan, where all the institutions are forming in all aspects with very limited resources. The disease burden is high and the cost is staggering with no adequate quality clinical healthcare. The nearest quality healthcare facility is usually in the neighbouring countries which are out of reach of the majority of the ordinary people of South Sudan. The whole nation is forced to seek healthcare abroad more often which has contributed alongside other factors in an apparent depletion of the national treasury.
This situation instigated a group of national businessmen and senior specialist doctors to join hands with a sole intention of establishing a state-of –art specialist hospital in South Sudan.
